A wheelbase is the engine of your sim racing setup — the part that attaches to your cockpit and provides force feedback through the steering wheel. Direct drive wheelbases connect the steering wheel directly to the motor without gears or belts, providing the most precise and lifelike feel.
Direct Drive — motor and wheel are directly connected. Strongest, most precise, lowest latency. Recommended for serious sim racers. Examples: Asetek Invicta, Forte and Initium.
Belt Drive — power is transmitted via belts. More dampened feel, good for beginners. Lower price.
Gear Drive — gears transmit power. Typically more noise and vibrations than belt and direct drive.
Nm (Newton-meter) indicates the force feedback strength. General guidance:
Below 5 Nm — beginners and casual gaming. 5-10 Nm — mid-range, good for most. 10-20 Nm — serious sim racers, detailed feedback. Above 20 Nm — professional level, motorsport realism.
